富岡鉄斎（1836～1924）は、文人画の伝統と精神を受け継ぎながら、独自の画境を切り拓きました。流派にとらわれない多様な画風が特徴で、日本の自然や文化を表現する際にはやまと絵風の技法をしばしば用いています。本展では仏教説話を美しい彩色で描いた《奈良八重桜図》、万葉集の和歌に取材した《山上憶良貧窮問答歌図》など、鉄斎がえがく古典の世界をご覧いただきます。
