幕末から明治初めの尼僧・歌人・陶芸家として知られる大田垣蓮月（1791～ 1875）。富岡鉄斎（1836～1924）は20歳頃に蓮月と出会い、学僕として身の回りの世話をするなかで、その慈悲深く謙遜な人柄に接し、大きな感化を受けました。明治８年（1875）、蓮月が没した後も鉄斎は欠かさず墓参し、大正13 年（1924）には数え89 歳にして蓮月の五十回忌法要を執り行い、生涯をかけて追慕しました。蓮月没後150年を記念する本展では、蓮月が和歌を書し鉄斎が画を描いた合作や鉄斎愛蔵の蓮月焼に加え、蓮月遺愛の陶芸道具を紹介します。
