室町時代を代表する画僧・雪舟等楊（せっしゅうとうよう）は、30代後半までは拙宗等揚（せっしゅうとうよう）と名乗っていました。その拙宗時代の作品で、長らく所在不明となっていた「芦葉達磨図」が米国で発見され、日本での修復を終えました。本展覧会は、この「芦葉達磨図」を初公開するとともに、雪舟時代の作品も加え、「若き日の雪舟」をクローズアップするものです。拙宗時代をテーマとした初の本展覧会が、雪舟の前半生に光をあてる機会となれば幸いです。
