バルト海東岸に面するリトアニア。領土争いや旧ソ連による占領等、苦難の歴史を歩みながら、豊かで穏やかな自然に恵まれ、人々は自然を崇拝しながら生活に必要なものを手仕事で作ってきました。時間をかけて作られた手工品は、暮らしのなかの祈りや願い、愛おしさに溢れており、素朴でシンプルだが私たちの心に語り掛けるものがあります。会場となる旧朝香宮邸は、フランスが国家の威信をかけて生み出したアール・デコ様式を直輸入した邸宅です。近代工業を背景に誕生した装飾美術の室内空間のなかで、昔ながらの手作りの品々は何を語るのか。これは旧朝香宮邸の装飾美術を再考する展覧会でもあります。
