本展では、西洋諸国との関りから、日本全体が大きく変容し、また自らの意識も外に向かっていくこの時代の日本の風景を、画家のまなざしがどの様にとらえたのか、ひとりのコレクターが海外で収集した200点を超える水彩画や油彩画によってご紹介します。これらの中には、内子町出身の洋画家、中川八郎（1877～1922）の初期代表作《雪林帰牧》をはじめとした13点の作品が含まれています。没後100年の節目に、本展にあわせて当館の中川作品もコレクション展にて一挙公開し、改めてその魅力をお伝えします。
