美術館周辺は「はけ」と呼ばれる崖から湧き水が流れる豊かな自然に恵まれており、併設の「美術の森」や「はけの小路」を散策できます。この水路の風景は、スタジオジブリ映画『借りぐらしのアリエッティ』の参考にされたことでも知られています。
