大阪市立美術館は、我が国屈指の質量をほこる中国の彫刻を所有しています。雲岡石窟や龍門石窟などの中国を代表する石窟の仏像をはじめ、造像銘のある基準作を多く蔵する世界的なコレクションとして知られています。これらの中国石仏を含むアジアの彫刻について、いつでも観られるよう常設展示してほしいというご意見をかねてより頂いておりました。今後はこのようなご要望にお応えするべく、展示替えを交えながら、年間を通してご紹介していく予定です。特に今回は、中国・山西省の天龍山石窟（東魏、北斉、隋、唐の各時代）を特集しています。当館のバラエティ豊かなアジアの彫刻をぜひともご堪能ください。
