絵を見て、そこにあるべき音を想像するのは楽しいものです。くちばしを大きく開けてさえずる小鳥たちの声、龍虎が巻き起こす風や雲の轟音、また、山水画に表された雨風や瀧の音、そして、名所絵の群衆の賑わいなど、音を感じとることができる絵画作品は少なくありません。かつて、中国の文人たちは、部屋に横たわりながら胸中の山水に遊ぶことを「臥遊」と呼んで楽しみました。心を澄まして絵の中に入り込むことができれば、現代の私たちにも、きっとさまざまな音が聞こえてくるはずです。 絵の音を聴くことによって、その作品の新しい魅力を発見してみてはいかがでしょうか。
