「ほとけの教え、とこしえに。」は、釈迦如来、阿弥陀如来、大日如来、未来に如来となる弥勒菩薩、そして現在と未来を結ぶ羅漢を描いた仏教絵画の名品をご覧いただく展覧会です。この世に生きた人間として悟りを得た「釈迦如来」、56 億7千万年の後にこの世に現れ、如来になる「弥勒菩薩」、臨終の間際に西方浄土から迎えに来てくれる「阿弥陀如来」、あるいはまた仏教の絶対的な真理を尊格化した「大日如来」など―仏教では、時空を越えた如来の信仰世界が展開しています。さらに、弥勒菩薩が出現する時まで、この世で仏法を守る聖僧の姿を描いた「釈迦三尊十六羅漢像」（19幅 常盤山文庫所蔵）も見どころのひとつです。主な展示作品のご紹介です。出品リスト（PDF）のダウンロードはこちらから。金剛界八十一尊曼荼羅 日本・鎌倉時代 13世紀 根津美術館蔵 『金剛頂経』（こんごうちょうきょう）の原理を表した金剛界曼荼羅の核心部分、「成身会」（じょうじんね）の曼荼羅。人の心が、どのようにして大日如来の境地へ達することができるか、つまり即身成仏（そくしんじょうぶつ）の過程が、整然と配置された81体のほとけたちによって図解される。兜率天曼荼羅 日本・鎌倉～南北朝時代 14世紀 根津美術館 未来に如来になることが約束された弥勒菩薩が、兜率天に住まう様子を表す。堂のなかに坐す弥勒菩薩を、菩薩たちがとり囲み、その体や上階に置かれた宝珠が金色の光を放つ。緑や青の彩色に精緻な截金（きりかね）文様が映える優品。釈迦三尊像 日本・南北朝時代 14世紀 根津美術館 赤い衣をまとった釈迦が坐す蓮華座（れんげざ）は、花弁を広げてたわわな蕊（しべ）をみせる。執拗なまでに刻んだ衣文（えもん）の表現など、中国の作風が顕著な作品。釈迦三尊像十六羅漢像 日本・鎌倉時代 13－14世紀 常盤山文庫蔵 神通力でこの世に生き続ける羅漢の図には、身体表現に長寿をことさら強調したり、猛獣を手なずけるなどの霊験（れいげん）を描きこまれる。
