About this exhibition
19世紀フランスの画家カミーユ・コロー（1796-1875）が生み出した数々の詩情あふれる風景画や人物画は、これまで世界中の芸術家や美術愛好家たちを魅了してきました。しかし意外なことに、その名声と人気にもかかわらず、コローを中心にすえた本格的な展覧会はわが国はもちろん、海外においてもごく稀にしか開催されていません。本展は、ルーヴル美術館所蔵のコローの代表作群を中心に、初期のロマン主義的風景からイタリア留学をへて真摯なレアリスムの時代、独特の煙るような詩的表現で、しだいに思い出や夢のようなヴィジョンを語りだす後期の画面、そして折々に手がけられた繊細な人物画の数々を集大成し、コロー芸術の魅力と秘密を再検証するものです。さらに国際的にも初の試みとして、印象派からキュビストまで、コローの芸術に深い影響を受けた画家たちの作品をあわせて展示いたします。美術史上におけるその存在の大きさとは裏腹に、決して声高に自己の芸術の革新性を主張することはなかったコロー。ルノワールやシスレー、ブラックなどの作品もまじえ、油彩画・版画110余点が一堂に会する貴重なこの機会にひととき耳を澄まし、彼の作品が持つ本質的な「近代性（モデルニテ）」の響きをお聴きいただければ幸いです。
