平安時代に紫式部によって著された『源氏物語』は、宮廷を舞台として貴公子・光源氏や個性豊かな女性たちの恋愛模様、人生模様を織りなした、日本文学史を代表する王朝物語です。後の時代に読み継がれる中で、文字の世界を超え、さまざまな美術作品を生み出しました。本展は、『源氏物語』の場面やモチーフを表した麗しい絵画、工芸品を一堂に集め、本文を綴った写本やその注釈類、さらに芸能や大衆文化への広がりも紹介することによって、わが国の文化に豊かなかがやきを与え続けたこの名作の魅力に迫ります。千年以上われわれを魅了し、いまや世界に広がる『源氏物語』。京都・東京の両国立博物館が総力を挙げてその華やかな美と魅力をお届けする、かつてない大展覧会です。
