ヴィクトリア女王の治世（1837-1901）はイギリス史上もっとも繁栄した時期で、美術活動も大いに活性化した時代です。一方、1800年代後半のフランスでは日常の何気ない風景や人々を主題として、戸外の臨場感をカンヴァスにとらえようとする印象主義があらわれ、その後に巻き起こる芸術運動の先駆けとなりました。本展では、美しいイギリスの自然を描いたベンジャミン・ウィリアムズ・リーダーの風景画や、チャールズ・エドワード・ペルジーニの清楚な女性像を、フランス印象派からはモネやピサロ、ギヨマンらの作品など、館蔵作品より19世紀後半の作品を中心に併せて30点余りを出品いたします。描かれた人物の活き活きとした表情、風にそよぐ木々や移ろいゆく光の表現をお楽しみください。 （2階 展示室5・展示室6）
