ジョイスが『ユリシーズ』で試みた意識の流れは、都市の中を歩く眼の記録だった。カイユボットの雨のパリ、ボナールの橋、マネのガス灯の通り、広重の両国橋、シスレーのモレの街。5つの都市風景が、近代人の内なる視線を映し出す。
