当館は、印象派を中心に19-20世紀フランス絵画の優品が揃う吉野石膏コレクション、そして現代フランス絵画の巨匠らの作品群を含む服部コレクションという、二つのフランス近代絵画コレクションを収蔵しています。また1964年の開館以来、山形関連の美術として郷土出身作家らの作品を収集してきました。本展では、吉野石膏コレクションより髙山辰雄〈聖家族〉シリーズとフランス近代絵画、そして服部コレクションより20世紀フランス絵画をそれぞれテーマを設けて展示します。また、秋には「山形の美術」として本県ゆかりの作家らによる作品を紹介します。
