京都・大原で自給自足の生活を営みながら、自然に向かい、戦後の水墨表現に独自の画境を拓いた小松均の全貌を紹介する展覧会です。明治35（1902）年に山形県大石田町に生まれた小松均は、大正9（1920）年に画家を志して上京し、川端画学校で日本画を学びました。大正13（1924）年の第4回国画創作協会展（国展）初入選をきっかけに、翌年京都に移り土田麦僊に師事しました。支援者の内貴清兵衛から、写実の徹底によって写実を超えた新しい絵画を創造すべき、との薫陶を受けた小松は、大原の生活の中に広がる風景と一体化するように、力強い墨線が埋め尽くす大画面の連作に取り組みます。その独自の画境は晩年の〈最上川〉や〈富士〉の連作へと展開し、小松の画業を代表するものとなりました。一方で小松は、大原の四季折々の自然に加え、生き物や植物などの身近なモチーフも繰り返し描いています。そこには対象を直視して描く小松均の一貫した姿勢に加え、あらゆる生命に対する素直な眼差しや作画の信念や生活の息づかいが、より直接的に表れているといえます。本展では、小松に魅せられた一人の人物が長年蒐集したコレクションのなかから、大原、最上川、富士や、牛、鯉、牡丹といった動植物など、初期から晩年までの作品約130点を展示します。自然を眼ざし、かたちを超えた精神までをも描き尽くそうとした孤高の画仙人・小松均の全貌を紹介する約25年ぶりの本格的な展覧会です。是非ご覧ください。
