About this exhibition
近代文人画の巨匠・富岡鉄斎（1836～1924）は、子孫繁栄、立身出世、不老長寿などの吉祥を表す寓意が込められた花鳥画を能くし、多くの作品を遺しています。花や鳥を主とした動植物を描く花鳥画は、宋代に大きく発展し、中国・日本の文人たちに広く享受されてきました。鉄斎もまた、中国から連綿と続く伝統的画題に取材する一方で、江戸後期に隆盛を迎えた本草学、博物学による新たな知識を取り入れ、それが単なる花鳥画ではないことを誇りとしました。本展では、晩年に制作された《朱梅図》、《花鳥図》、《富而不驕図》などの花鳥画の名品を中心にご覧いただきます。生命力に満ちた鉄斎独自の花鳥画をご堪能ください。
