鏡の歴史は古く、中国では新石器時代に青銅鏡の製作がはじまりました。人々は、鏡を人の心までをも映し出すなど、霊的な存在ととらえていました。それだけに、鏡の背面（鏡背）の文様には、当時の世界観や願いがこめられました。本展では、平成22年（2010）に村上英二氏より寄贈された中国古鏡コレクションから、天地のなりたちや神仙の世界、長寿や多産といった現世的な幸福を願う吉祥文様などをもつ約60件の名品をご覧いただきます。
