About this exhibition

ルーヴル美術館の所蔵品展は、これまで日本でも何度か開催されてきました。大きな美術館の所蔵品展をおこなう場合、時代と国とで区切るというのが定石ですが、今回は、やや変則的で大胆な構成になる予定です。この度の展覧会の範囲は「１７世紀のヨーロッパ絵画」なのですが、一般に予想されるような国別の組み立てではなく、１７世紀ヨーロッパ絵画を三つの大きなテーマで分類し、この時代のヨーロッパ絵画を横断的に検証してみようと考えているからです。その三つとは、「黄金の世紀とその陰」、「大航海と科学革命」、「聖人の世紀における古代文明の遺産」です。そこでは、宮廷的な世界と貧しい農民の姿が対置され、あるいは、自然科学の発達と拡大する世界がもたらした新たな社会の諸相が概観され、さらに、宗教改革以後のキリスト教社会がどのような宗教図像を生み、また、新たな規範を確立していったのかが探求されていきます。レンブラント、フェルメール、ルーベンス、プッサン、クロード、ラ・トゥール、ドメニキーノ、グェルチーノ、ベラスケス、ムリーリョといったルーヴルを代表する画家たちの重要な作品が出品される予定です。
