ガブリエル・アブランテス（1984年、米国ノースカロライナ州生まれ、リスボン在住）は、脚本、監督、プロデューサー、俳優として、映画やビデオで映像表現を探求してきました。ポストコロニアル、ジェンダー、アイデンティティなど、歴史的、政治的、社会的なテーマを扱うことで知られています。時に不条理で、ユーモアのある斬新なストーリー展開は、神話、伝承、史実、社会通念などに捻りを加えることで作り出されています。また、メロドラマ、ロマンティック・コメディ、戦争や冒険映画など、ハリウッド映画から流用した、大衆に馴染みのある表現によって、問題提起を行いながらも、親しみやすい作品となっていることも特筆に値します。
