産業革命以降、特に20世紀後半に人類が地球に与えた影響は、それ以前の数万年単位の地質学的変化に匹敵すると言われています。この地球規模の環境危機は、諸工業先進国それぞれに特有かつ無数の事象や状況に端を発しているのではないか。本展はその問いから構想されました。
