ルイーズ・ブルジョワ（1911年パリ生まれ、2010年ニューヨークにて没）は、20世紀を代表する最も重要なアーティストの一人です。70年にわたるキャリアの中で、インスタレーション、彫刻、ドローイング、絵画など、さまざまなメディアを用いながら、男性と女性、受動と能動、具象と抽象、意識と無意識といった二項対立に潜む緊張関係を探求しました。そして、対極にあるこれらの概念を比類なき造形力によって作品の中に共存させてきました。
