第二次世界大戦後の動乱期を経て、現代アートの表現は多様な拡がりを見せました。そのなかでは、男性中心の視点で書かれた歴史や芸術の解釈、あるいは評価についての疑問も生まれました。欧米を中心としたジェンダー・イクオリティ（男女平等）に関するこれら初期の運動は、今日、グローバルな議論へと発展し、芸術の領域をはるかに越えて拡大しています。本展では、世界各地で活動する70歳代以上の女性アーティスト約15名の多様な実践を紹介します。それはまさしく、彼女たちの芸術と生き方そのものへの称揚ともいえるでしょう。
