松尾芭蕉を深く敬愛していた与謝蕪村（1716～83）は、芭蕉の俳諧紀行『おくのほそ道』を主題とした作品を数多く制作しています。なかでも、『おくのほそ道』の全文を書写し、関連する絵を添えた作品は、これまで4件の現存が知られていましたが、このたび新たに5件目となる作品が発見されました。この作品は、史料のみから知られるものも含め、諸本中もっとも早い時期に制作された作品であり、それらの起点となる重要作と位置付けられます。奇しくも、『おくのほそ道』が刊行されてから320年となる節目の年に発見された蕪村の図巻を、関連する当館所蔵品とともに初公開いたします。
