古今東西を問わず、人が人らしく生きる上で必要不可欠なもの、それが遊びです。江戸時代の大名においても、つれづれを過ごす娯楽のみならず、たしなみや教養の糧として、さまざまな遊びがおこなわれました。「琴棋書画」に代表される高雅な遊びをはじめ、公家由来のみやびな香合せや貝合せに、かるたや双六・人形といった玩具や遊戯具に至るまで実に多彩です。大名たちの心をなごませ、生きる力を育んできた遊びの世界を紹介します。
