また、北九州市は、九州における鉄道の起点／玄関口であり、工業と密接に結びついた鉄道の拠点として、製鉄業とともに発展してきました。同時に鉄の都は、さまざまな芸術文化が生まれ、モノづくりの技術と人々の誇りを育む場所でもありました。本展は、こうした〈鉄〉をめぐる北九州市の歴史とその記憶を、そこで生み出された美術作品や美術活動によってたどることで、日本の近代を担ったひとつの都市が育んだ文化の実態とその意義を、あらためて考えようとするものです。
