ベル・エポック―美しき時代パリに集った芸術家たちワイズマン&マイケルコレクションを中心に

本展は、フランスにおいて文化芸術が華やいだ時代、ベル・エポックを舞台にした映画「ディリリとパリの時間旅行」に触発されて企画された。映画の主人公である少女・ディリリは、とある事件の謎を解き明かす中で、ベル・エポック期に活躍した芸術家や科学者らと出会い、彼らの力を借りて事件解決へと向かっていく。本展においても、映画に登場する芸術家を中心に、パリの街中を賑わしたポスターやファッション、生活を彩る家具や工芸を紹介し、当時の空気を振り返る。フランス側では美術史家のフィリップ・デニス・ケイト氏を監修者に迎え、デイヴィッド・E. ワイズマン＆ジャクリーヌ・E. マイケル夫妻のコレクションを中心に、また同コレクション管理者のノルマ・ティボー氏の協力を得て、充実した内容の展示が実現した。当館ではあまり展示機会のないドレスやアクセサリーの出品があったこと、女性の活躍を紹介するセクションを設けたためか、女性や若い世代の支持を得た。ベル・エポックは統一的な様式がなく、取り扱うジャンルも多岐に渡り、多様な文化の発展が見られる一方で混迷を極める点もあるが、近代フランス美術史を専門とする喜多崎親教授（成城大学）の講演会では、時代の様相が読み解かれ、展覧会の補助線となった。会期中に開催されたパリ五輪の効果もあってか、あまり美術館には来ない来館者にも好評だっ
