ABOUT
日本画家・山口華楊（1899-1984）は、西村五雲（1877-1938）に入門後、京都市立絵画専門学校に入学。主に動物を主題とした作品で頭角を現します。五雲の亡き後は画塾・研究団体である晨鳥社を再興し、京都画壇を代表する画家の一人となりました。本展では、当館が収蔵する華楊の代表作3点を中心として、初期から晩年までの画業を通覧します。京都ではなじみの深い華楊ですが、東京では27年ぶりの回顧展です。
