今回の展覧会のタイトル、「個視淡々(こしたんたん)」は、「虎視眈々」(意味:トラが鋭い目で獲物を狙うように、じっと機会をうかがう様子)という言葉になぞらえた植田の造語で、カメラ雑誌(『日本カメラ』1980年6月号)に寄せた文章のタイトルです。この文章は、植田の〈風景の光景〉と呼ばれるシリーズの一部を「私風景」というタイトルで雑誌に発表する際に記されたもので、その中で植田は次のように記しています。「写真にはテーマが大切、といわれる。私にとっては、“日常”そのものがテーマだからことさら気負わなくても、これでいいのだ、とおもっている。」
