本展は『水滸伝』の物語をつぶさに紹介するものではなく、『水滸伝』に導かれながら北宋～清の中国美術、および江戸～現代の日本美術を広く展観するものです。これまで『水滸伝』に関わる展覧会は、版本や国芳の浮世絵にフォーカスしたものが中心でした。本展は中国美術を含む多彩な作品や資料を通じて『水滸伝』の世界を多角的に提示することで、その魅力を深く味わっていただく、今までにない試みです。
