明治から昭和を生きた画家、熊谷守一（1880－1977）は、徹底して対象をみつめ、身近ないのちを生き生きと描きました。とくに晩年に到達した、あかるい色と単純化されたかたちによる独自の画風は、今も多くの人々を惹きつけてやみません。本展は、昨年没後40年を迎えた熊谷の画業を、油彩画を中心に、水墨画、書など190点を超える作品で振り返る四国で久しぶりの大回顧展となります。また、スケッチや日記も紹介し、その大らかでありながら、他に類をみない作品の制作背景に迫ります。熊谷がその眼と手でとらえた世界の豊かさを感じていただければ幸いです。＊会期中、一部展示替えがあります。
