愛媛県北宇和郡二名村（現・宇和島市三間町）に生まれた畦地梅太郎（1902-1999）は、山の風景や生き物、代表作である山男など、様々な角度から「山」を表現し、「山の版画家」として広く知られるようになりました。本展では、愛媛県美術館での10年ぶりの回顧展として、初期から最晩年までの200点を超える版画作品を展示いたします。また、山岳文芸雑誌『アルプ』での活動をはじめ、書籍の装丁や蔵書票に表された、畦地の豊かな思考に触れることのできる「本の仕事」についても紹介します。自らの生涯を「とぼとぼ」と表現したように、地に足をつけて急くことなく画業を積み重ねた、その人と作品の魅力をあらためて生誕の地から伝えます。
