モネは印象派としての作風を確立する前、イギリスを代表する画家・ターナーの作品にふれ、その風景表現に感嘆したといわれます。1907年設立の英国 ウェールズ国立美術館が誇るコレクションより、19世紀から20世紀初頭にかけてイギリスやフランスで活躍した画家たちの珠玉の作品70点あまりを展示。近代英国風景画の双璧を成すターナー、コンスタブルをはじめ、写実主義のミレーやクールベ、印象派のモネ、ルノワール、ラファエル前派のロセッティら、美術史に輝くスターたちの個性きらめく名品が一堂に会します。
