私たちを取り巻く自然や暮らしに欠かすことの出来ない「水」。静かに降る雨、轟音とともに落ちる滝、ゆったりと流れる川、波しぶきをあげる海 ‥ 常に形をかえ、とどまることのない「水」に古今東西の作家たちは、万物の移り変わりを見、壮大な自然観やそれぞれの人生観を独自の形や色、技で表現してきた。本展では、鋭い観察眼によって、自分だけの「水」を探求する、その多様な表現を時代の流れとともに提示した。なお本展は同時期開催の企画展「没後 50 年 福田平八郎」展の開催にあわせて、その主要なモティーフである「水」に着目して大分県立美術館の所蔵品をご紹介するものである。
