中国・清末民初に活躍した王一亭（1867‒1938）は、上海の実業家、慈善家である一方、海上派の巨匠としても知られます。幾度も訪日し、日中文化交流のかけ橋となりました。生誕160年を記念して、その業績と時代を回顧します。
