1950年代から60年代、日本では前衛美術の領域で多くの女性作家が登場し注目を集めました。しかし豪快で力強い「アクション・ペインティング」の隆盛に伴い、批評の対象から外れてゆきます。本展では、彼女たちのアクションへの応答と挑戦を「アンチ・アクション」としてとらえ直し、草間彌生（1929‒）、田中敦子（1932‒2005）、福島秀子（1927‒1997）ら14人の作品を紹介します。
