日本は国土の約7割が山地であり、古来、人々は山々に畏敬の念を抱き、その恩恵を受けて暮らしてきました。明治以降、近代登山の考えがもたらされ、山はスポーツやレジャー、調査研究の場として新たな価値を帯びる一方、その急峻な地形や変わりやすい天候によって人々を脅かし、今なお畏怖の対象でありつづけます。本展は、当館コレクションから山を題材とした作品を紹介。大雪山や硫黄山といった道内各地の名山を描いた「ここにある山」、作家の中に蓄積された記憶の再構成、または抽象的な観念、心象風景から生まれた「心にある山」。14名の芸術家たちによる様々な山の姿を楽しんでいただけます。
