Artist
Piero del Pollaiuolo
Timeline
Around 1460, he collaborated with Antonio on three massive canvases of the 'Labours of Hercules' for the Medici Palace. Though now lost, they were highly famous in their time.1
Known for profile portraits of young women, such as the one in the Museo Poldi Pezzoli. Long attributed to Antonio, it is now often credited to Piero for its delicate painterly quality.1
In 1479, he was commissioned to paint the 'Seven Virtues' for the Tribunale della Mercanzia. While Botticelli painted 'Fortitude', Piero completed the other six, now in the Uffizi.1
The only painting Piero signed and dated is the 'Coronation of the Virgin' (1483), located in the church of Sant'Agostino in San Gimignano.1
In 2021, a 'Portrait of a Youth' fully attributed to Piero sold at auction for over 4.5 million GBP, marking the first time a work solely by him appeared at auction.1
