江戸時代の武士は、弓矢を操り、馬に乗り、刀剣や鑓の扱いに習熟するなど武芸を身につけました。武士は合戦に参加するため、日頃より武芸の修練に励みましたが、武士階級が無くなった近代以降、武芸は軍隊や教育機関における心身の鍛練を目的とするスポーツとして定着し、現代に至ります。大名家・尾張徳川家で実際に用いられた武具類や武芸各種の伝書などを中心に、さまざまな武芸について紹介します。
