様々な領域で活動する現代美術作家、杉本博司（1948-）。小田原文化財団 江之浦測候所をはじめ建築分野でも活躍し、日本の古典芸能など舞台芸術の演出では国内のみならずヨーロッパ数都市やニューヨークにも進出。その活動分野は書、陶芸、和歌、料理と多岐にわたっています。そんな多才な杉本の芸術の原点は銀塩写真にあります。確たるコンセプトに基づく、独自の表現による作品はまた、銀塩写真の技術としても頂点を極めるものであり、写真がデジタルに置き換わった今、その技法は今やまさに「絶滅が危惧される」ものと言えます。本展では杉本の初期（1970 年代後半）から現在に至る銀塩写真約60点を展観します。写真作品で構成する美術館での個展は、国内では2005年の森美術館以来の開催となります。さらに、所蔵品ギャラリー3階にて当館所蔵杉本作品全点、また制作の秘密を明かす未公開資料「スギモトノート」をサテライト展示します。
