About this exhibition

岐阜ゆかりの織田信長には、モザンビーク出身と推測される家臣・弥助がいたように、季節風（モンスーン）に乗りインド洋を超えるアフリカとアジアの交流は古くからありました。アフリカに由来する現代の作品には、ダイナミックな移動をテーマにした作品が多くあります。移動と交流によって生まれる現代美術の視点の転換は、自らのアイデンティティを見つめ直し、人類の持つ創造性の豊かさを捉え直す機会を与えてくれるでしょう。本展では、アフリカに関わる現代美術を中心に、アフリカ人が描かれた桃山・江戸初期の屛風や、岐阜県美術館所蔵のティンガティンガ絵画をあわせて紹介します。
