第一線の染色作家として新しい表現に挑み続ける八幡はるみ（1956年生まれ）の個展を開催します。八幡は京都市立芸術大学で染色を学び、大学院在籍中から個展やグループ展で精力的に作品の発表を始めます。動植物のスケッチから模様を生み出す日本の伝統的な染色のあり方を踏まえつつ、生地の柔軟性を生かして与えた形態から染模様を導き出す「シェイプド・ダイ」に先駆的に取り組み、コンピューターによる画像加工やインクジェットプリントなど新しい技術を果敢に取り入れ、華やかで独創的な作品世界をかたちづくってきました。
