About this exhibition
型染は、図柄のうち染めない部分を型紙に彫り抜いた孔を通して生地に糊で防染を施すことにより図柄を染め分ける技法です。型紙の彫り残した部分と彫り抜いた部分の境界が、染料に染まる部分と染まらない部分をきっぱりと分けて、魅惑的な線の表現が生まれます。美術のなかの他ジャンルでは版画や剪画とも共通する線の美しさが特徴です。型染から派生したステンシルや捺染の技法は、彫り抜いた部分を染めるという違いがあります。近年は紙でなく樹脂製フィルムを型の素材とするなど技術的な変化もみられますが、型紙を彫った線の魅力は型染と変わることはありません。そうした線を繰り返して無限の広がりやつながりを連想させる表現もまた、型染が得意とするところです。今展ではベテランから新進まで作家15名による作品を一堂に展示します。すらりと伸びる直線、入り組んだ曲線、幾何学的な線、生命が描き出す複雑な線。それらが重なり合い、色彩とともに奏でる交響を、ぜひお楽しみください。
