本展では、若い作家がどのように染めを解釈し、自立した表現としてきとのか、そして改めて「身体・暮らし・食と健康」に深く関わってきた染めに近づき、その技法やありようを現代にそして未来に守り生かす道を共に考えたい。明治期に生まれた図案という言葉は、分業化している染色過程の中の意匠という意味で使われてきた経緯によるものか、平面作品は「絵画として見せたい？」などと聞かれ、また「これはもう染色作品ではなく現代アートだよ」とまるで一段昇格したかの様な褒め方をされる。現代は誰でもアーティストになれる時代であり、芸術を学んだからといって「作品をつくる芸術家」にならなくとも、染めを通して物事を深く学び、日々の暮らしや考え方を表現する、発信する、指し示す方法を見つければよいのだと思う。
