金・銀をはじめとする輝く素材は、古来、洋の東西を問わず人々の心を引きつけ、尊ばれてきました。聖性や高貴さ、権力の象徴として、あるいは豪華な装飾などに使われ、素材の美を追求した作品も作られています。日本で貴族文化が栄えた平安時代には、金・銀が併用されることが多く、雲母(きら)と呼ばれる白雲母の微粉も好まれました。金・銀の繊細な表情や雲母の白くやわらかな輝きに、日本人の洗練された美意識がうかがわれます。本展では、平安時代の経典と書跡を核とし、桃山時代から現代に至る絵画、書跡、やきもの、漆芸を合わせて約40件を展示します。美麗な料紙(書を記す紙)、上品な雲母摺の冊子、金・銀を施した屏風など、多様な「かがやきの美術」をお楽しみください。
