歌川広重は、言わずと知れた名作「東海道五拾三次」を世に送り出した浮世絵師です。本展覧会は、歌川広重・不動の名作「東海道五拾三次」と晩年に描いた俯瞰図「五十三次名所図会」の比較展示をはじめ、フランスの後期印象派の画家たち、特に、フィンセント・ファン・ゴッホを魅了した「名所江戸百景」まで、郷愁と叙情の世界を、四季の雪月花になぞらえてご紹介します。また、参考出品として、豊国、国定、英山など、名だたる絵師たちによる雪月花をテーマとした名品を特別展示します。広重が描いた日本の原風景は、私たち日本人を郷愁へと誘います。本展が新たな日本の魅力を再発見する好機となれば幸いです。
