茶の湯の道具は、本体を保護するための箱も含めて、大切に受け継がれてきました。こうした本体に付属する一式を「次第(しだい)」と呼びます。次第には様々なものがありますが、制作当初から添っている「共箱」、所有者が変わるたびに誂えられた「仕覆(しふく)」なども、本体とともに珍重されてきました。本展では、「大井戸茶碗 銘 喜左衛門」(国宝、京都・孤篷庵)をはじめとした茶道具の名品とともに、それぞれの「次第」をあわせて展示いたします。一つ一つの茶の湯の道具が積み重ねてきた、歴史や背景に触れる機会となれば幸いです。
