本展では江戸の人々が日常の中で花や鳥に親しむ姿を紹介します。満開の桜に心躍らせ、雁の群れに秋の訪れを感じるなど、江戸の人々は身近な花や鳥を通して自然と触れ合い、喜びや風情を見出してきました。園芸の流行や珍しい鳥を集めた茶屋の誕生、装いのデザイン、さらには擬人化された花や鳥が登場する物語まで、様々な形で花と鳥が生活に溶け込んでいた様子もうかがえます。花鳥画だけでない浮世絵に描かれた花と鳥の姿をたどりながら、季節を愛で、日々を楽しみ、想像力を広げていった江戸の人々の感性に思いをはせる機会となれば幸いです。
