About this exhibition
室町時代に足利義満によって創建された相国寺は、中世の動乱によって多くの伽藍を焼失しました。近世になり、復興に尽力する僧侶たちに手を差し伸べたのが、寛永文化の主導者、後水尾院（ごみずのおいん）でした。後水尾院は相国寺僧、昕叔顕晫（きんしゅくけんたく）を師として落飾し、複数の伽藍を再興しました。院の禅への興味に加え、御所との地理的な近さ、貴族の子弟の入寺によって、当時の公家社会と密接な関係を築いた相国寺とその塔頭には、多くのゆかりの什物が残されています。十七世紀の京を彩った華麗な文化を今に伝える寺宝の数々を展示室でご覧ください。
