約1,600年前の古墳時代に生まれたやきものSUEKI＝「須恵器」。硬くて丈夫な、灰色のこのやきものは、朝鮮半島から伝来した新たな技術で生産が始まり、その後の日本における陶磁器の礎となりました。本展は、最新の研究成果を反映した約40年ぶりとなる大規模な展覧会です。九州から関東・東北に及ぶ全国各地で作られた重要文化財11件を含む名品約200点を紹介します。古代の人々が残したカタチから、彼らの創造力をお楽しみください。
