Joachim Beuckelaer (Netherlandish, c. 1535-c. 1574)

Joachim Beuckelaer is estimated to have been born around 1533 in Antwerp.¹

Joachim Beuckelaer became an independent master in the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke in 1560.¹

His still life of a carcass, Slaughtered pig, dated 1563, is likely the earliest dated example of this subject.¹

Most of the drawings for these religious works by Beuckelaer were destroyed in the course of the Calvinist iconoclasm which swept the Low Countries, starting in Antwerp in 1566.¹
